5. Which version do I install?

WorkStation Support recommends that you use OpenSSH over SSH from ssh.com on your UNIX platforms. The SSH Windows Client from ssh.com is recommended for Windows machines.

5.1 Version 1

SSH version 1 has a known vulnerability and should NOT be used. OpenSSH versions prior to 2.3 and ssh1 from ssh.com versions prior to 1.2.31 are vulnerable.

5.2 Version 2

ssh version 2 has secure ftp (sftp) which is useful if you plan on doing large amounts of data transfer. sftp is much nicer and easier to use than scp. sftp from ssh.com allows the "*" wildcard character, which makes multiple file transfers easy. For OpenSSH, you should use the "*" wildcard character with scp.
