Installing Mathematica on Macintosh

Enrollment

All computers must be enrolled in the site license program and must be registered with the network license servers before they may run Mathematica. In order to register your machine, we need to know its hostname. The hostname of a Macintosh is the fully qualified name associated with its IP address. The TCP/IP control panel will display the Macintosh's IP address.

Macintosh Installation

The Macintosh distribution of mathematica can be found via AppleShare. A link to the Mac OS X installation notes can be found here:

If you should have trouble accessing the software, please contact your local support provider for further assistance.

Select

Zone Computer Science 128.36.0
File Server BABS
Connect as NetID
Volume Mathematica6

Substitute your own NetID in place of NetID. Enter your password where it is requested. If this command succeeds, it will mount the Mathematica6 share as an icon on your desktop.

Double-click on the Mathematica 6 icon that appears on your desktop. Run the Mathematica 6 Installer. You will see a window asking for you to "personalize your copy of Mathematica." The license number you need to enter is: L2976-7169.

Select your installation options depending on how much disk space you have available.

Network-based installation:

Most users will choose the option to use a Network license. For this option, you need to provide the installation with the ip number of the license manager. Please use: 128.36.236.34. During the installation, a license file named "mathpass" is created. If you chose the default destination, the file is located here:

/Library/Mathematica/Licensing/mathpass

After the installation is done, you need to replace this mathpass file with the mathpass file found here:

ftp://ftp.wss.yale.edu/pub/licensed/mathpass

Standalone licenses:

Stand-alone licenses are available if needed for faculty laptop and home users. Students are not eligible for standalone licenses. Please note: Standalone licenses expire yearly on September 1st. If you have a laptop, then select "Single Machine". A window will appear giving you a "MathID". Please forward this number to WSS. A password will be requested for your installation and then sent to you.

For further assistance, please contact WSS.
