Installing Matlab on MS-Windows

Matlab is available on the following platforms.

All users must enroll in the site license program. Their computer must be registered with the network license server before Matlab will function.

Hostname

We need to know the hostname of your computer to register it with the license
server. For MS Windows operating systems, the hostname is set in the DNS tab of
the Network Control Panel. If you are running Windows NT/2000/XP, you can
learn the hostname by issuing the hostname command from the command
prompt. Otherwise, you should examine the setting in the DNS tab of the
Network Control Panel.

Installation

You may install a complete Windows 95/98/NT/2000/XP version of Matlab from
the campus network. If you prefer, a copy of the installation cds can be borrowed
for a limited amount of time. Please send mail to wss@yale.edu to request the
media.

Mathworks installation guides for Windows are available

for (version 2007a) pdf

for (version 7.3 R2007a) pdf

for (version 6.5SP2 R13) pdf

- Copy the Matlab license file to your desktop so you will be able to locate it
during the installation procedure.

Matlab R2007a is the newest version available on the software download site. If you wish to install a different version, please send mail to: wss@yale.edu .

- To install 2007a, the following Personal License Password (PLP#) is needed:

17-54166-37215-57938-25474-46393-07854-58384-58431-02740-36115-52046

Access the server Babs in the ITS-WSS domain. Sometimes, you can
access \\babs using the Network Neighborhood facility in Windows, but this is
unreliable in the Yale network. You have 2 options:

Option 1) Open a command prompt window on your machine. Then type:

net use * \\babs.its.yale.edu\MATLAB /user:yale\NetID

Substitute your own NetID in place of NetID. Enter your password if it is
requested. If this command succeeds, it will mount the MATLAB share as a drive
letter on your computer. A message will tell you what the assigned drive letter is.
If it is G:, for example, you can find the MS-Windows Installer in G:\Matlab .

Option 2) Start > Run > \\babs\MATLAB

If prompted, sign in as YALE\your_NetID & provide your password. A window will
open displaying the contents of the MATLAB share. The 2007a distribution for MS-
Windows is in \\babs.its.yale.edu\MATLAB\2007a

Click on Setup.exe to begin the process. You can choose several different strategies for loading. If you have enough disk space, you can load the whole system including documentation. If not, you may install a "minimal system". Answer the prompts to complete the installation.

These options work under Windows NT/2000/XP. Please contact your local
support provider if you need assistance networking other versions of Windows.
